The most picturesque village Naxos

It is one of the most picturesque villages of Naxos and has been characterized by National Geographic as one of the most beautiful villages of the Cyclades. We are talking about Koronos!

The cobbled streets, the arches, the white houses, its history and the inhabitants with their linguistic idiom are some of the things that make it truly special.

Built at an altitude of 540 meters on the slopes of a ravine, Koronos wins you over at first glance.

It is one of the oldest settlements of northwestern Naxos, since it is said to have been created around 1200, while there are findings from the Neolithic Age and from the first period of the Cycladic civilization.

The greater part of the village is built on the opposite sides of a deep and green ravine, hence the name "Pothori" that was given to it until about 1932. For the transition from one side of the village to the other, there used to be a fairly large bridge, the "Giophyri".

The special layout and the traditional architecture of the houses compose an unusual and enchanting image that escapes from the Cycladic origins and strongly refers to a village of Pelion.

The beautiful houses are divided into seven neighborhoods (Angerida, Kastro, Livadaki, Kato Geitonia, Apano Sterna, Provolakia and Platsa) which communicate with each other with labyrinthine cobblestones and countless steps.

Almost every neighborhood has its own square and maintains its old fountain, while there is also a central square, Platsa as the locals call it.

The arbors, the flowers in the courtyards and the elaborate arches create a romantic atmosphere, which moves and fascinates the visitor.
